Wiped Out!

Ray and I just got back today from a wonderful get-away...complete without the kiddies! We celebrated our 10th anniversary (just a wee bit late) and let grandpa and grandma take the kids for the weekend while we went up to Traverse City. It's only a 3 1/2 hour drive north, but the scenery is 110% different than here. I'm hoping to post some pictures tomorrow if I get time. The trip started out a little rough because halfway there on Friday night the rear brakes on the car pretty much completely wore out. The pads had been changed not long ago, but unknown to us, the calipers had been sticking for a while and had completely worn down one pad and ground a groove in the rotar. So....lucky for us we have family in the Traverse area who own a car repair shop. Fortunately we made it to our hotel and then to the shop on Saturday morning to get it fixed. I spent a relaxing afternoon with the Boone's visiting while Ray stayed at the shop to help out and then after a quick lunch we headed off to explore the sand dunes and the beautiful scenery in Northern Michigan. The leaves are so pretty up there, and with the contrast of the hills and water....breathtaking, and very relaxing. Sunday we had meeting at Donnie and Charlotte's and enjoyed the afternoon with them before heading off to window shop downtown (and a gelato pit stop), and a little visit to Elk Rapids. We also snuck in a couple of quiet dinners at some nice restaurants in town. Nice to be able to carry on a complete conversation without any interruptions! We did miss the kids, though! I was so anxious to get back today to see them again. This was the first time we had left Owen, so that was a little nerve-wracking, but he did fine. They were all happy to see us when we got back. Now we're wiped out from being out of our routine! How does that happen?? Oh well...will be back in the swing of things again tomorrow!
